The papers in the book are based on proceedings of the "Clinical Applications of Music and Neurologic Rehabilitation" conference sponsored by Beth Abraham Health Services in March 1993. Dr. Oliver Sacks has for the first time written specifically about "Music and the Brain." Concetta Tomaino presents examples of how music can stimulate seemingly lost motor and cognitive function through activation of alternative neural networks.

Rhythmic Activities for Everyday Care: A Dementia Care Video Training Guide

Price: $10.00

This DVD and companion booklet are designed to provide instruction on how to develop and lead a therapeutic rhythm program that can engage and soothe people with dementia and tap into the potential for communication that they still have. It teaches classic rhythm techniques while offering several examples of rhythmic activities. It can also serve as an activity in itself, for it follows the course of a 20-minute therapeutic rhythm group from beginning to end. This program was created by the Institute for Music and Neurological Function, a member of Beth Abraham Family of Health Services and made in partial fulfillment of a grant through the New York State Department of Health, Dementia Grant Program. It is intended for educational use by caregivers in dementia care settings.
