Session 1

Technology in Music Therapy
Friday, July 16, 2010, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (6 credit hours)

In this workshop, you will discover how to enhance your music therapy clinical practice through music technology. You can further your skills with Digital Audio Workstations through the exploration of clinical applications of music software and hardware. The workshop will provide in-depth information on how to use MIDI and alternative instruments with Garage Band, Pro Tools and Logic Studio. We will also explore applications for music therapy with the new Apple iPad.

 


Session 2

Analytical Music Therapy (AMT) and Integrative Medicine Module 1
Saturday, July 17, 2010, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (6 credit hours)

 

Instructor: Benedikte B. Scheiby. MA, MMEd, CMT, LCAT, DPMT

Introduction to the application of AMT to medical trauma in clinical practice and theory. Through didactic and experimental learning participants will receive training in areas of medical music psychotherapy trauma work. Basic concepts of AMT work in a medical context (short/long term rehab, skilled nursing home)will be demonstrated live and on videotapes in areas such as medical trauma work, pain management, stress management, music assisted yoga and musical meditation. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own instruments except guitar and piano, so they can experience how these can be integrated in their work.

 


Session 3

The Camera as a 4th Entity: Clinical Applications of Video in Music Therapy
Sunday, July 18, 2010 , 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (6 credit hours)

Since the launch of MTV in 1981 to the ‘boom’ of Facebook and YouTube in the 21st Century, music and video have increasingly become intrinsically related. The workshop will explore the correlation of visual and aural media as it presents different ways to incorporate video in the music therapy session. Discussion will include the impact of the camera in the session, video as part of the creative process, clinical aesthetics, direct supervision through Skype and self analysis through video playback. The session will focus on work with the young adult population yet it is applicable to other areas in the field.

 


Session 4

Roots, Reggae, and Music for Therapeutic Rhythmic Activities
Monday, July 19, 2010, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (6 credit hours)

 


Instructor: Marlon Sobol, MT-BC, LCAT

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Frank Sinatra jammed with Bob Marley or Mitch Miller played with Baba Olatunji? Come experience this under-discovered fusion that has proven to have magical outcomes. This course will teach basic drumming patterns that are commonly found in Caribbean music. You will learn how to therapeutically apply reggae music to the adult/geriatric population (but not limited to this population) and come home with a bag of ideas for new program planning!

     Lunch is not included. Within walking distance of the venue, you will find a variety of places
