Schnurmacher Staff Gives Gift of Caring, Wrapped in Foil

June 11, 2008 (White Plains, NY) – Led by Colin Aitchison, assistant director of food services (3rd from right), with support from food services director Gail Adams (2nd from right), the food services staff at Schnurmacher Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, a member of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services, gathered recyclable aluminum, sold what they have collected, and turned the proceeds into a donation to Heifer International, which used the money to provide a goat to a poor family somewhere around the globe.

 

The group received much-deserved kudos from Linda Murray, executive director (far left); Jane Bassano, education coordinator (4th from right); and Karen Lacerra, director of admissions (far right).

Clifford P. Case III, Esq at 9th Annual Golf Classic, July 14

June 9, 2008 (Bronx, NY) – Beth Abraham Family of Health Services invites the community to its 9th Annual Golf Classic on Monday, July 14, 2008 at Century Country Club & Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, NY.  Co-sponsored by Amalgamated Bank and Roosevelt & Cross Incorporated, this year’s Golf Classic will honor Clifford P. Case III, partner and co-director of environmental practice at Carter Ledyard & Milburn LLP.

 

A friend and supporter of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services for more than a quarter century, Case is a member of the Board of Directors of the Beth Abraham affiliate Institute for Music and Neurologic Function, whosework in music therapy continues to break new ground in the treatment and rehabilitation of people with neurological conditions.

Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation Nurse
Wins "Caring Award"
 

 

June 4, 2008 (Bronx, NY) - The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation (CNR) announced today that Alisa Huggins, Community Health Nurse, is the winner of a statewide competition in the “Caring Award” category. CNR is a member of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services, one of the largest not-for-profit healthcare organizations in New York State

The competition, sponsored by Home Care Association of New York State (HCA), recognizes an individual in the healthcare industry who exhibits compassion, skills and services that sets their contribution apart from others. HCA, New York State's premier home care association, represents more than 400 providers, individuals and associate members who collectively serve thousands of New Yorkers.

 

Specializing in caring for chronically ill individuals, including those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, Alisa provides the very best in home care. Annual Health and Wellness Fair

An event that brings the Bronx community together!

 

May 27, 2008 (Bronx, NY) – Beth Abraham Health Services invites the community to its 8th Annual Health and Wellness Fair. The event, which is free and open to the community, will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the first floor and Auditorium of Beth Abraham’s 612 Allerton Avenue facility.

 

Bronxites are welcome to visit more than 30 learning stations and receive free blood pressure screenings.  Free eye screenings will also be available.  Health educators will be present to provide nutritional education, stress management techniques and more.

Octogenarian Martha Flowers Shakes Things Up

at Concert Celebrating a Groundbreaking New 

Music Therapy Program in White Plains 

 

May 21, 2008 (White Plains, NY) – 89-year old Martha Flowers, a resident of Schnurmacher Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in White Plains, joined Music Therapist Marlon Sobol, Jazz great David Amram, bass guitarist Alan Katz and GrammyÒ-nominated percussionist Bobby Sanabria for a rousing jam celebrating the inauguration of the ground breaking music therapy collaboration between Schnurmacher and its affiliate, the internationally renowned Institute for Music and Neurologic function. April 4, 2008 (White Plains, NY) – Beth Abraham Family of Health Services invites the community to an Inaugural Concert announcing the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF) at Schnurmacher Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at The Arts Exchange. The concert, which features world-renowned Jazz great David Amram with roots reggae and hip-hop band Shem's Disciples, starts at 8:00 p.m. with reception to follow.

 

Through this special musical event, Schnurmacher celebrates its collaboration with the internationally recognized IMNF, a world leader in usingand studying the efficacy of Music Therapy. By partnering with its network affiliate, Schnurmacher, conveniently located in the heart of White Plains, is proud to bring one of the nation’s leading music therapy providers to expand its services beyond those already available in Westchester county.

Bell Chimes Ring in a New Look for Schnurmacher

 

March 28, 2008 (White Plains, NY) -- Schnurmacher Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing recently celebrated the opening of a $1.7 million renovation to its lobby and exterior entrance. The renovation was undertaken to create a more welcoming space and provide an enhanced recreational and social environment for patients and their families.

Highlighting the celebration was entertainment provided by the Schnurmacher Resident Bell Chime Ensemble, pictured here with their conductor and music therapist Marlon Sobol (front row, center). New York, NY, February 6, 2008 - The Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF), a leader in innovative music therapy treatments and research, is pleased to announce a special Music Has Power™ Benefit Concert on March 4, 2008 at New York City’s Terminal 5.  Beastie Boys will headline the event with special guests to be announced shortly.  The evening will be hosted by Moby, a long time friend and board member of the IMNF. Sponsors include VH1 and MTV. 

The Bronx-based Institute forMusic and Neurologic Function, a member ofthe Beth Abraham Family of Health Services, is a nonprofit, 501 (c) (3) agency founded on the idea that music has unique powers to heal, rehabilitate, and inspire -- and that we can use music therapy to restore and improve our physical, emotional, and neurological health. The Institute is dedicated to advancing scientific inquiry on music and the brain and to developing clinical treatments to benefit people of all ages and was founded with the help of renowned neurologist Dr. Oliver Sacks.  Past Music Has Power events have featured appearances and performances by Chris Martin, Gwyneth Paltrow, Dustin Hoffman, moby, Rob Thomas, the B-52's, Kris Kristofferson, Rufus Wainright, Bruce Hornsby, Vanessa Carlton and many others.

PEP for Seniors and NY Public Library Present

Portraits of Our Past: Celebrating Influential African Americans”

An Exhibit Showcasing Hand Painted Portraits by Talented Parkchester Seniors

Bronx, NY, January 23, 2008 -- In commemoration of Black History Month, the Parkchester Enhancement Program for Seniors (PEP for Seniors) and the NY Public Library are joining together to present “Portraits of Our Past: Celebrating Influential African Americans,” an art exhibit featuring hand painted portraits by talented Parkchester seniors.  Community members are invited to view the exhibit beginning Thursday, January 31, 2008 at the Parkchester Branch of the NY Public Library located at 1985 Westchester Avenue. 

 

PEP’s art class will showcase portraits of distinguished African Americans with corresponding biographies. The contributing artists are local Parkchester seniors who are members of PEP for Seniors, a Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC) – Supportive Service Program (SSP) led by Beth Abraham Health Services.  PEP’s otherpartners include Bronx Jewish Community Council, Jewish Association of Services for the Aged, the Parkchester Preservation Company and Management.
